Our library, managed by Ms. Mahmood and pupil librarians, is open daily from 9.00am to 3.30pm. Children have a free choice of books and a wide range of texts and genres are promoted. They can change their books either during school time or during their class library session. All library books have a barcode and need to be issued and returned via the library computer system, JL.net, which is used by many schools. We also lease some of our books to keep our stock as current as possible.
The library is the heart of our school, and through the use of our library we aim to:
- Promote reading for pleasure
- Extend reading skills
- Promote independent reading
- Provide books about current classroom topics
Every lunchtime children can visit the library, and on a Thursday lunchtime library monitors read to KS1 children. There are also a number of activities held in the library, such as the Poetry Slam Award, where children research and select one poem to perform to peers. The school also holds regular book sales.
