Governance

Welcome from the Chairman of Governors

Welcome to the All Saints Governors page, we hope that you find it useful to find out more about who we are, and what we do. If want to know more about us as individuals, do scroll down to the introductions below.

As volunteers who enthusiastically give up our time, we are incredibly proud to be able to support and help our fantastic school, and in particular our excellent Head teacher, Jane. We are committed to supporting the school live its core values of Love, Hope and Community and are always keen to engage with the local community; if you feel you could help in some way, please feel free to approach any of us.

Together we can all make this not only a brilliant school, but also a wonderful community.

Alistair Duncan

Chairman of Governors

All Saints C of E Primary School’s Governing Body works as a team with the Headteacher and school staff to help provide a happy, safe and thriving learning environment and an excellent education for the children at our school.

The Governing Body is a corporate and legal body responsible for the conduct of the school. This includes:

  • Agreeing and supporting the school’s vision, aims, targets and priorities
  • Overseeing the financing of the school
  • Providing a broad and balanced curriculum in a safe and stimulating environment.

The Full Governing Body (FGB) meets twice each term to look at the progress of the school and to discuss plans for improvement (using the School Improvement Plan). Every year the FGB has training on a relevant subject or need. Individual members also attend courses throughout the year to support their roles and responsibilities.

There are two committees made up of Governors that also meet six times a year:

  • Curriculum Committee – members help ensure the National Curriculum is implemented at the school, to monitor the school improvement priorities, to call subject managers and leaders to present the curriculum and data and to keep abreast of curriculum developments. They also ensure the correct policies and procedures are followed.
  • Resources Committee - members advise and assist the Headteacher and report to the FGB on matters relating to the provision of resources (premises, staffing, finance, etc) for the school. They also ensure the correct policies and procedures are followed.

Diversity Statement

As a school, we recognise that a diversity of thought, voices, and perspectives is essential to good governance and the effective running of any organisation. We regularly collect diversity information from our governors and, depending on current data, can use this to:

  • target recruitment to address gaps in experience and diversity
  • develop and adapt practices to ensure full participation
  • prioritise training and awareness-raising in identified areas
  • address potential 'blind spots' by seeking wider advice and perspectives on current and upcoming opportunities, challenges, and risks

However, we are unable to publish this information as it would mean that individual members of our Governing Body are identifiable.

About our Governors

Alistair Duncan

I was a parent governor at All Saints since September 2017, and took up the role of Chair in September 2019. I am now a Co-opted Governor. I have lived in Highcliffe since 2012 and I had two daughters through the school. I work as the Second Master at The Pilgrims’ School here in Winchester, which is the choir school for the Cathedral. I believe strongly in the importance of community links, and see being a governor as a way to ‘give back’, both to the local community which we love so much, but also the school, which has done a terrific job with our girls. All Saints is a happy and productive school; I am delighted to support it in whatever way I can.

Sam Cairns

I am a member of All Saints Church and have lived in Highcliffe since 2013. I have worked in the arts and heritage sector for 20 years including in education roles at Imperial War Museums and the Wellcome Trust. Currently I run my own company helping to run arts and heritage education projects. I am also a member of the Arts Council England Artsmark assessment Panel and a National Lottery Heritage Fund mentor.

Becca Higham

I joined the All Saints Governing Body in September 2022 as a co-opted Governor with specific responsibility for safeguarding. I am currently the Deputy Head (Academic) at The Pilgrims’ School, which is just down the road, and the choir school for the Cathedral. I have a degree from Cardiff University in Music and Education, completed my PGCE just up the road at the University of Winchester and recently completed a Masters in Educational Leadership at the University of Buckingham. I am passionate about all children having the opportunity to thrive in their school environment and am particularly keen that children develop a love of reading. I am really looking forward to getting to know the All Saints Community and am keen to support in any possible way.

Dave Rodda

Elizabeth Bull

I have lived in the local area and attended All Saints Church since 2022. I have two daughters currently at the school. I am a lawyer, currently managing the Governance Team in the Legal Division at the Financial Conduct Authority. I have previously served at a governor at a primary school in inner city London. I love the local community and enjoy using my skills to support the school.

Toby Popplewell

Since moving to the local area in 2017, my family and I have cherished being part of All Saints’ vibrant and supportive community. I have two sons currently attending the school, and in the 2023/24 academic year, I joined the Governing Body as a parent governor to give back to the school that has provided so much for our family. I hold a Master of Physics from the University of Southampton and work as a Chartered Accountant at PwC, where I lead the M&A AI strategy. With my background in finance and accounting, I focus on supporting the school’s financial reporting and governance. I am committed to helping All Saints continue to provide an excellent education and nurturing environment where all children can thrive.

Nathan Eve

Reverend Chris Curry

I am the rector of All Saints Church, in East Winchester Benefice, a former pupil of All Saints School and a current parent. Currently I work with and alongside people of all ages. Prior to entering ministry I worked for Human Rights organisations, working on advocacy, public policy and training. I loved my time at All Saints and want to help the school continue to bring love and hope to its community.

David Small

I was bought up in Winchester and have lived in Highcliffe for over 20 years and have worked in sales and marketing roles both in the UK and internationally. I now run a small business in Winchester and am also former Chairman of the Chesil theatre and still a trustee.

I believe passionately that a good, well rounded education in a nurturing environment is the foundation for good future citizens. I hope that my commercial and practical background will prove useful. Being a governor is my way to give back to my local community.

Sharon Gray

I have been teaching at All Saints for the past five years across year groups 2, 3 and 5. I am subject lead for English, Geography and Music. Prior to teaching in Hampshire, I taught in a pre-school, an infant and junior school in Surrey. My background prior to joining the world of education was working within several pharmaceutical companies, in particular in International Affairs, which took me to many Middle Eastern countries. Additionally, I spent several years working within a Radiotherapy Unit in Guildford. I have three grown up sons, who passed through the education system, so have experienced the education system from a parent perspective too. At this point in my life, I am fully invested in making a greater contribution to All Saints and the community by being part of the Governing Body. I am eager and committed to supporting All Saints from both sides, as a member of the teaching staff and as Staff Governor to promote an inclusive, vibrant school environment and learning journey, so pupils thrive and their families feel welcome.
