Supporting your child learn phonics

At All Saints C of E Primary School we use the Bug Club programme  to underpin our phonics provision in the early years and key stage one.

When introduced to a new letter sound we teach the name of the letter, the sound it makes and what it looks like.  Over the course of a week children are taught to blend and segment sounds to read and spell for meaning.  We do this in an active way to ensure children are actively having fun while learning.

Letter Progression

When children are able to blend (blending for reading) and segment (segmenting for spelling) these sounds when reading and writing they are able to move onto the next series of sounds.
