Supporting your child learn phonics
At All Saints C of E Primary School we use the DFE produced document called ‘Letters and Sounds’ to underpin our phonics provision in the early years and key stage one. Since year one phonics screening was introduced a number of years ago we have always achieved the national expectation which are particularly proud of.
When introduced to a new letter sound we teach the name of the letter, the sound it makes and what it looks like. Over the course of a week children are taught to blend and segment sounds to read and spell for meaning. We do this in an active way to ensure children are actively having fun while learning.
